Hours after filing the story below, I received a phone call from a colleague at the Concord Times who told me that interviewing a minister in court is illegal.
She laughed as she described a scenario that saw me and the editor of the paper picked up by police and charged with a criminal offense.
Having just completed a story on the criminalization of libel, the thought of being sent to prison for writing an article seems like it might actually be realistic here in Sierra Leone.
Anyone know a good criminal lawyer with a specialty in international law and freedom of expression?
