Death and Life in Sierra Leone

Photographer Anna Kari, http://www.documentography.com/ and Time Magazine reporter Vivienne Walt document maternal mortality in Sierra Leone in this masterfully done photo/audio essay:

I met with Anna and Vivienne for lunch as they were trying to organize themselves for a trip to a rural village for the story. Anna told me that she was confronted in Freetown by angy people who heard that Time was looking for dead women to photgraph. Dealing with this extremely sensitive issue was not easy, but Anna and Vivienne did a wonderful job detailing the injustice of the preventable death of a woman at the start of her child's life.
